About Lazuli Landing
MidPen is excited to partner with Union City to build Lazuli Landing, a new housing community located on Mission Boulevard, between D St., E St., and 2nd St. In a collaborative effort to address the need for affordable homes for individuals and families in Union City, MidPen and the City plan to build a housing community that recognizes the values of the City and the neighborhood. In order to achieve the City’s vision, MidPen conducted an authentic and inclusive community engagement process that aimed to balance the goals of understanding and honoring the existing community fabric while at the same time providing affordable housing for individuals and families.
In early 2018, the City issued a Request for Proposals, which invited non-profit affordable housing organizations to submit proposals to develop affordable housing on the vacant City-owned property. MidPen was one of the organizations that submitted a proposal and was selected by City Council to further evaluate a plan to develop affordable housing. After holding seven community meetings and numerous individual conversations with community members, MidPen submitted an application to the City of Union City on August 15, 2019. On July 28, 2020, the City Council unanimously approved the proposal.
